For a few years now, we have observed more and more cedar trees dying on our own property, but also throughout our community and all around Vancouver Island. We have no doubt, that a big reason for the cedar “crisis” are the droughts we’ve been having throughout the last few summers, as well as the patterns in rainfall changing throughout the year. With the water table lowering at the same time, the trees are running out of water options, and are starting to get more and more stressed while trying to survive.

It hasn’t been easy, watching a lot of our cedars drying out and eventually dying. However, we have decided we would honor them the best by turning them into something beautiful, something to live on. These live edge cedar benches were built by Charlie using dead cedar trees from the home property, and are now enjoyed by our family and some of our friends.
