When building or renovating a home there are a lot of decisions to be made. There are countless options for wall colours, flooring and bathroom tiles to choose from but did you know that there are different choices for glass as well?

Regular glass has a greenish tint to it, due to its iron content. As the name indicates, low iron glass has a much lower iron content making it more transparent. In fact, lowering the iron content in glass can increase the light transparency by 5 to 6 percent. Since the edgework of low iron glass is clearer and less green, it is a great option for frameless glass applications like shower walls or shelves, but also cabinets and display cases where better clarity is valued.

Low iron glass is slightly more expensive than standard glass. The thicker your glass, the more visible will be the greenish tint in regular glass, and it might be worth investing in the low iron alternative.

Quite a difference: standard glass on the left, low iron glass on the right.
