Central Vancouver Island is experiencing the first day of snow today. While it’s officially still Fall, the white stuff shows that the time to talk about Winter maintenance has come early this year. If you’ve been conscientiously working on your Fall Maintenance checklist, chances are you are already well prepared for the journey towards spring, and there are just a few more things to pay attention to during the cold months.
Exterior
Nobody likes a wet basement for Christmas, which is why it is critical to check your foundation for any leakage or damage. Cleaning your deck drains, gutters and downspouts will help keep your foundation healthy. We don’t usually get a lot of snow here on Vancouver Island, but when we do, it is important for you to remove the snow around your doors and to get rid of any ice dams that might build up on your roof.
Interior
In the Interior of your home, seal your showers and bathtub tiles if needed, and clean/change your furnace filter. Afterwards, make yourself a hot chocolate or tea, curl up in a warm blanket and celebrate your proactivity in keeping your home happy and healthy – you deserve it.
